Think & Achieve Poster Commentary - 3_Collaboration

Collaboration

by
Daniel J. Dyman, Ed.D.

Collaboration is the realization that no man is an island.

It is the acknowledgement that each individual sharing a mutual interest has a point of view or an insight of inherent worth and value.

It is an interactive relationship among individuals who affiliate in a common thrust in a resolution of issues and concerns even perplexing differences in the establishment of agreeable and workable polices and procedures.

Collaboration exists in an environment of conceded and non-contested equality where the cooperation that prevails assures resolute teamwork leading to the development of favorably unique outcomes.

It is beyond voting upon proposals or options. It is a contributing participation among respected individuals having some investment in the result. It is other than a unilateral conclusion.

It is a collective enterprise committed to the presumption that the best outcome will emerge as those gathered present or exchange perspectives. It is offering and yielding in the formation of a consensus driven consequence. All benefit.

Collaboration is about the “we” in any meeting. It is more than a democracy that operates for the sake of the majority. It implies the best outcome will be derived as the course of action for all concerned. It is the best way for all. It is different from a choice from among many. It may well be a decided amalgam of the many.
