Think & Achieve Poster Commentary - 8_Setting Goals

Setting Goals

by
Daniel J. Dyman, Ed.D.

A goal is a fundamental ingredient for accomplishment. Without a goal without a direction, effort is aimless.

A goal is a target for visualization that brings the reality of achievement. Without a goal without a destination any road will be as good as any other.

A goal is more than an entry on a daily to-do agenda although items on the list may step by step one by one lead to the attainment of a goal. Person to person, the assortment may be as varied as the imagination can conceive. They may focus on the tangible as well as intangible. Regardless, any goal should have an overall quality that elicits action and impacts lifestyle.

Setting a goal may well require thoughtfulness rather than a response to a day to day need. It may well require the evaluation of options and values.

Goals should have significance and therefore, should merit timely and periodic accountability checks that will dictate adjustments en route as may be needed.
